I recently installed Boinc from fedora yum And when I try to run, it tries to connect but ends up as disconnected. I also tried to connect manually, using local host and my or rott passwd still can't connect or add any projects. On a side note: The version I installed via script 6.6.17 runs as expected. Any ideas on what I need to do to fix ? thanks |

Well, still doesn't work. I (un/re) installed a couple of times just to make sure I was doing everything right. Basically boincmgr hangs at startup, I see the gui but nothing works menu items tabs etc all frozen. the boinc demon is running and my login is a member of the boinc group but... Appl doesn't even close, I have to kill the process manually What a pain... suggestions? |

looks like reboot fixed the dead gui issue but still the initial problem remains. When I try to connect to localhost, it pauses a minute while stating "connecting to localhost" then finally says disconnected. I added myself to /usr/sbin/usermod -G boinc -a username and also set a password in /var/lib/boinc/gui_rpc_auth.cfg as outlined in the read me but still no work btw: the yum version of boinc gui is 6.4.7 any ideas? |

There are several threads on the site about this behaviour when there's a LARGE number of WUs in the queue. There's a button in newer versions of BOINC to cure this. Have a read of this thread for more details. |

Well, I spoke too soon GUI is still dead on startup. Unless someone has a solution, I'll un-install this turkey. |

interesting, but I'm not running a firewall. And even if I were, why does the Linux version I downloaded and installed from the download site work and the yum version does not? |

The Fedora version is not maintained by this site. You'll need to find the Fedora maintainer, and ask her/him. |
