Help! BOINC just locks up on startup - It was working fine then the machine crashed. It appaears that BOINC did not shut down properly and it is just hanging on start. If I am quick enough I can change tabs but there is nothing in the messages output to tell me what is happening (or not as the case my be). I have tried a repair and a remove/reinstall to no avail Any other suggestions?? TIA Scoot |

Help! Scooter, You might try, in order, 1 ) Completely shutdown, then coldstart your computer, retry Boinc. 2 ) If no success, then use the "repair" option on an install, then retry step 1. 3 ) Still no joy? Properly uninstall Boinc, without deleting anything else in the folder, reinstall, retry step 1. Michael "The arc of history is long, but it bends toward Justice" |

I've had this happen recently too... In addition to those 3 steps, I've tried the following: 4) Properly uninstalling, and deleting the BOINC folder in "Program Files" and then installing 5.2.13 5) All of the above, and then an 5.2.15 install attempt. I'm not sure how to diagnosis this, much less getting it working. Any success on this thread? Regards, Sam |

just picked up the message - a cold reboot seems to have done the trick - it was a little narky then I realised that it (post reinstall) had dumped a shortcut in the startup folder. Removed this, cold reboot, crossed fingers and it fired up - however it did mark my werk as complete (which I am sure it wasn't) Anyways - prob seems to have been fixed - thank Michael Scoot |

Well, it's working again. Yesterday, I was fiddling with it, and was doing the 'cold' boots, leaving around 10 minutes in between the attempts, for it to cool off, but it wasn't working. So, I left it off all of last night. This morning I booted up and there it was, right as rain. I have no idea when the magic moment was, but the moral of the story is that 'cold boot' should be more like 'deep freeze boot.' Give it a good long rest, and then boot. Cheers, and thanks for the advice! Sam |
