I wish I could get info about the LTD directly from the Boinc Manager client. In the same manner as use of disk for each projects on a tab. Since the LTD play such important role in work assignment now. It should be easy to make a script to pick the info from client_state.xml in next new versions of Boinc.

Paul – you may want to take a look at this 3rd party developed software, which addresses LTD. It’s not intergraded within the BOINC Client but it may serve your needs, please review it
here.

Personally, I haven’t tried it so I can’t attest to it’s value, but I’ve seen it discussed in several other thread on different Projects, like this one,(http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/forum_thread.php?id=2795).

Hope this helps a bit,
Tom

No offense Tom, but... the problem with this is the same as for most of the "3rd party" software - it is available ONLY for whatever platform the 3rd party themselves have, because it was written to fill a gap they were affected by. IF they make it "open source", then it MIGHT be compiled for other platforms, but there are still no guarantees. Your solution might help Paul or might not, depending on his platform, but definitely isn't applicable to all participants.

For example; there is ONE program available for the Mac, once you exclude SETI-only or CPDN-only etc. applications, and applications that work only with the CLI version and not the GUI version - and as good as it is, that one program only DISPLAYS the information, no editing, and STILL doesn't include the LTD. The Linux situation is only slightly better. And even for Windows, there is no overall coordination - there are several programs that all do basically the same thing, with no way to tell from the short descriptions which does what.

I have to second the motion to add LTD values somewhere in the "supported" BOINC Manager code, so it will be available cross-platform. It's a common enough need now that it shouldn't be left to 3rd parties any longer, and the "Disk" tab right now has been cut back in functionality to the point that there is plenty of room to make this an "Advanced" tab instead.

No offense Tom, but...

Bill – No offense taken, whatsoever, and agree with you completely about third party software (had some rather bad experiences in the past). Furthermore, I should have preformed a little more homework to find out what Paul was processing with and version of client he was using.

Also, in complete agreement with an “Advanced” menu embedded within the client, hopefully on the horizon for the development team.

Regards,
Tom

Agreed!
It would be nice to be able to see it when investigating work fetch issues. I just worry that seeing it may not be enough for some, as soon as it becomes visible, the likely followup would be a wish to change it. ;-)

Anyway, +1 for this wish.
