So, I recently have upgraded my OS to windows 7, which has a built in bandwidth monitor. It shows Boinc.exe sending 315,000+ bytes per second, and Boincmgr.exe receiving 500,000+ per second. That seems a bit excessive? that's 800kb/sec if I'm not mistaken? I recently got a letter from my ISP for too much bandwidth usage, but I didn't know why. I guess this is the reason? Why is there so much data being transmitted? |

Boinc.exe and Boincmgr.exe talk to each other on the local computer, so you can see in real-time what happens to tasks in the GUI. This 'bandwidth' is only used on the local computer, not on the internet, so your ISP won't notice this. The project or projects you are attached to do need to get their data to your computer, that'll happen through the internet. Plus of course all your other browsing and whatever you download (from Windows Updates to the latest series through Hulu. ;-)) or watch on Youtube. In other words, it isn't BOINC talking to its parts, but your other activities. |

Alright, thanks man. I was sort of half worried for a few minutes there. |
