Hi,

I'm using boinc 6.6.38 on windows xp pro.
BOINC installed for all users - no service account.

Windows task manager - both in process list and in performance graph (show kernel times enabled) constantly show that the boincmanager is spiking between 0 and 25%.

I'm grasping at straws....
Is there a problem turning off the cpu usage throttle?
I had used an override with a setting of 50%.
Later, I reset it back to 100%

I didn't look before I overrode my default setting (100%); sorry.

The spiking occurs even when all tasks are suspended.

BOINC Manager (boincmgr.exe) talks to the client (boinc.exe) by way of remote procedure call (RPC), on TCP port 31416. This two way communication can have a bit of impact on the CPU, but there is no other way to show in real time what is happening in the client, which tasks are running, at how much percentage done, the elapsed time counting up, the estimated time to completion counting down, messages about what it's doing posted in the Messages tab/window, etc.

So it's quite normal.

THANKS Jord!!!

After more looking around - I found that the Malaria Control tasks do a lot of disk activity - thus the kernel activity on windows task manager is explained.

I do have another question on throttling. I'll put it in another thread.

Thanks again,
Jay
