O.k., I think I found the culprit here. Most likely this was a Zone Alarm issue. I noticed in the Zone Alarm alerts log that ccEvtMngr (a Norton AV component) was trying to phone crl.verisign.net and was being blocked by ZA. According to the event log, the BOINC error 1 happened immediately after 2 consequtive ccPwdSvc events. I put the IP address for crl.verisign.net (197.7.48.190) into the trusted zone and allowed Event Manager Service (ccEvtMgr.exe) to have trusted zone access. After rebooting, I notice 3 consequtive ccPwdSvc events and no BOINC error. Hmmmmpf. Whoda thunk it was a permissions issue. |

Description: First off, this part of the description happens quite regularly. Usually on a service installation. It is nothing to worry about for BOINC operations. The following information is part of the event: BOINC error: 183, Another instance of BOINC is running. This isn't a problem either, for as long as BOINC is already running. It is just a warning of sorts that the client can't start twice under normal circumstances. Only one instance of each: BOINCMNGR BOINCTRAY in msconfig. It won't be in the HKEY_CURRENT_USERS part of the registry. Please check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce- Could you also check and post what it says for the keys ENABLELAUNCHATLOGON, ENABLEPROTECTEDAPPLICATIONEXECUTION, ENABLEPROTECTEDAPPLICATIONEXECUTION2, ENABLEUSEBYALLUSERS, LAUNCHPROGRAM, RETURN_VALIDATEINSTALL and SETUPTYPE in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley\BOINC Setup, please? |
