I currently run SETI and Climateprediction and am considering migrating to Windows 7 64-bit. Is this possible? Are BOINC and these apps be compatible with Windows 7 and 64-bits?

Thanks.

BOINC will happily run on Windows 7, there are 32bit and 64bit versions of it available.

However, neither CPDN nor Seti have 64bit applications. They only have 32bit applications, which will still run happily under a 64bit BOINC.

Thanks, Jord. Do you think it would be in either Seti or CDPN's interests to develop 64-bit compatible applications or do you see them staying at 32-bits for the foreseeable future?

For Seti it doesn't matter much if their application runs in 32bit or 64bit. It doesn't use much memory (up to 32MB for the calculations alone), so it's not very useful for the developers there to make a 64bit app out of it.

CPDN on the other hand can use a lot of memory, though nowhere near 4GB.
Their problem is that they use proprietary code, developed by the Meteo Office. It is about 1 million lines of Fortran code which cannot easily be ported or recompiled.

So no, I don't foresee any changes towards that in the future.

Mind, for Seti there are third party applications available. These include 64bit apps. For more on that, see the download page at Lunatics.
