As many others, I will upgrade to Windows 7 in the near future. The installation of choice will be a reformat. I would prefer to keep my current work and progress. What file locations and registry entries should I save?

P.S. I searched the forum and skimmed the stickies to no avail. Tnx in advance.

You need only save the Boinc Data folder. It's location is indicated in the messages (around the 4th line) when you start Boinc. It's usually a hidden folder so you may need to use the folder options to show hidden files and folders. You should put the copy in the new OS then install Boinc (same or newer version) making sure that the installer points to the place you put the Data folder.

You'd save yourself some trouble by setting all projects to "no more work", waiting till you have no work left (and making sure all is reported), and then reformatting.

You're right about clearing all the work first. If you have a lot of projects, it's easier to make a copy of the data folder, that way you don't need to worry about re-attaching to all the projects.

I personally keep a clean (no tasks), up to date copy of my data folder on a separate drive so that when my system dies as it did last year with a corrupted C drive, it was a simple matter to get Boinc running again using my backup data folder. I've had 3 computers with 3 OS since I started with Boinc and have never needed to re-attach projects from scratch.

That reminds me, I added Milkyway a couple of weeks ago. Time to make a new backup.

Simple problems call for simple solutions.
