Several different projects have locked up my computer, where Boinc won't wake up from screen saver mode. There's no apparent loss of data, but I need to re-boot to get back into my system.

Any ideas?

( Boinc 6.6.38, Dell Dimension 8400, Windows XP 5.1 sp3, plenty of memory )

Else it may well be heat.

- If this is a laptop, make sure it gets adequate cooling, that its cooling slots aren't obscured by anything.
- If this is a desktop or tower, power it down and open it up. Blow the dust out of the fans and heatsinks.

As an example, if your heatsink looks anything like this, you really need to clean it out with compressed air:

Projects running under BOINC will put your CPU under load, this generates heat. Too much heat that can't be dissipated correctly and your computer will crash. Clean heatsinks will dissipate the heat in a normal fashion for your fans to blow or suck out of your case. .
