Decided to attach to Collatz Conjecture yesterday, managed to get my E8500 C2D Desktop PC with Vista 64bit attached O.K with Boinc 6.10.9_64, But when i tried it on my T8100 C2D Laptop with Vista 32bit and Boinc 6.10.9_x86, i could only get as far as having attach to project selected, then on clicking Next, i just get a Blank window, without the list of Projects, and the Box hangs. I downgraded to 6.10.4, did a repair, it was the same, then uninstalled 6.10.4, and installed 6.6.37, i still didn't get the list of Projects, that part was Blank, but managed to copy and past project url into the Box at the bottom and attach O.K, I've since upgraded back to 6.10.9, still the same, and just now tried 6.10.10, which has the box open for 10 secs, no list of projects is shown, then Boinc Manager shuts down! Ideas? Claggy Edit: the only difference i can think of is the Desktop uses Windows firewall, while the laptop uses McAfee's firewall, I did try giving Boinc Manager inbound access as well as outbound, no change. The last time i did attach to a project, was probably Orbit in July 08, with Boinc 6.2.19 or an earlier version. |

The list of projects that should appear in that drop-down is a file - all_projects_list.xml a) Do you have a file of that name in the BOINC Data directory on your laptop (with the problem)? If so, what's the size/datestamp? b) If found, take backup of dodgy file for later analysis c) Likewise, do you have the file on the working desktop? Size/datestamp? d) Transfer file from working machine to problematic machine. Does it help? e) If yes, please report differences between good file and bad file. |

O.K, all_projects_list.xml is Corrupted with data from BTFON, date is 26/09/09 02:37, size 9.78k, copy from desktop 27/09/09 10.:14, size 24.7k, (I connect to the internet via a BTFON wireless link when not back at my house), and i must have not been logged in when i tried it the first time, It's probably all the data for the BTFON logon page, as there's no Boinc related data left. and yes it does work now. That was a lucky guess on my part ;-) But a nasty bug on BOINC's part - request a new copy of all_projects, and stuff whatever HTML comes back into a file, with no sanity check. Somebody could program a spoof there. |
