I am new to Linux but I am tired of paying Microsoft. I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 and downloaded the Boinc agent from world commmunity grid. I changed the permissions to executable on the donwloaded file and click on it. This greated a directory called BOINC on my desktop. I restart and nothing happens. I click on boincmgr and nothing happens. How do I get Boinc to start on Ubuntu? |

Delete that BOINC folder, then get boinc-client and boinc-manager from the Ubuntu package manager (Synaptic?) instead. It will be configured to automatically start when your computer boots and other nice things you won't get by downloading from the BOINC website. That's generally how you're supposed to install software on Linux: your distribution's package repository, not downloading each program from its website. |

Currently, the most recent version of BOINC for Linux supports Ubuntu Intrepid at the latest. Version 6.4.5 is working on Jaunty and the Karmic beta. |
