i have had bonic installed for about a week now. i just noticed that if i hit snooze, then close boinc. i then go to play bioshock again or any game. i notice slow downs at some point, say after the snooze timer normally wears off. what is the timer like 15-20mins? well that is when i after noticing the slow downs in game, exit the game. I then bring up task manager and notice boinc still running. i also see all the mini rose's running. seems the only way to truly get it to stop is to go into boinc and suspend the project, then go play.

any thoughts about what is going on?

What sig? :-) [edit]Okay, I found it. Didn't wear my glasses ;-)[/edit]

Snooze is indeed timed - for an hour, I think.

You needn't suspend the project(s) but could select Suspend from the Activity menu in BOINC manager's advanced view. That would be advantageous when you have more than one project.

Then there is still the <exclusive_app> clause in cc_config.xml.

Gundolf

i kinda follow but if i snooze and then close boinc. one hour later it shouldnt be running in the background if i closed the app. the app does not appear in the taskbar with the clock.

the only work around i have found is to open boinc (already in advanced view) and suspend the project then close boinc.

the exclusive app clause does what? im not following all of it, sorry...

There are 2 parts to BOINC:
1) The client, which is a 'hidden' daemon, and does all of the work.
2) The manager, which displays a window on some of the things that the client is doing.

If BOINC has been installed in "protected" (service) mode, then closing the manager does NOT stop the client, which keeps going, along with the science apps.
To stop the client, you need to first of all go to: menu > Advanced > Shut down connected client > OK.
THEN you can shut down the manager.

**********************

the exclusive app clause does what?

BOINC scans programs that get started, and if it's name matches that written in this app, it suspends until the program stops.
The problem to watch is those programs that use "launcher" programs, which close once the main program starts. In this case, you need to use the name of the main program.

e.g. Insert Flight Simulator.
Then when you run Flight Simulator, BOINC suspends for the duration.

Since BOINC 6.6 this doesn't need the service installation anymore. Closing BOINC Manager even when not installed as a service, will continue the client if you didn't use the exit dialog that asks you if you want to "Stop running science applications when exiting the Manager?".

Only by explicitly checking that option will BOINC completely exit.

**********************

And example of a cc_config.xml with use of the exclusive_app tag:
<cc_config>
  <options>
     <exclusive_app>Speed.exe</exclusive_app>
     <exclusive_app>Crysis.exe</exclusive_app>
     <exclusive_app>FarCry.exe</exclusive_app>
     <exclusive_app>NFSHP2.exe</exclusive_app>
     <exclusive_app>FarCry2.exe</exclusive_app>
     <exclusive_app>Fallout3.exe</exclusive_app>
     <exclusive_app>RA3.exe</exclusive_app>
  </options>
</cc_config>

You will need to fill in the complete name of the executable, including the extension. No need to add the path to any of them. BOINC scans for these in memory, not if they exist on disk.
