Message 27240 - Posted: 10 Sep 2009, 7:31:20 UTC

I just installed BOINC Version: 6.6.36 on windows XP 64 bit OS. When I click add project from the simple view it doesn't do anything. It also saying "retreiving current status" under a ever moving progress bar. I don't have any software blocking the connection. I am not running the internet through a gateway either. Not sure what is going on. Anyone have any ideas?

Try switching to Advanced view first, then go Tools->Attach to project. Does that start the Attach to wizard? If it doesn't, repair install BOINC, or uninstall and reinstall it.

By the way, if this was a clean install (first time installation), did you reboot?

Having the same problem with BOINC in Fedora 11, nothing works in the interface globally and I get the error message or just constant status bar of what seems to be BOINC trying to connect to the network interface, and the message is thus: "retrieving current status" and a status bar in the simple view, "connecting to localhost" in the advanced view in the lowermost corner in the right hand side. Any suggestions?

Do you get
Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site

If so, is this followed shortly after by
Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

I think we need more info from the message list.

If there's only 10-20 or so lines in the messages tab, can you please click the "copy all messages" button, and then paste them here.
This should tell us how far BOINC gets.

There's nothing user sensitive in them.

Nope. You have a different problem.

Try this.
