How can I stop some tasks like Milkyway from running at "high priority". When Milkyway runs at high priority, which it seems to do whenever there are other tasks from other projects running, it stops the tasks from other projects running. Everything goes to "waiting to run" and only Milkyway tasks run, all at high priority. |

This project has extremely short deadline compared with the WU crunch times. They want the work returned quickly (3 days?). If you check their forum you will find some complaints about the short turn around they expect. Boinc V 7.4.36 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB NVidia 470 |

BOINC will stop downloading Milkyway tasks when they have piled up enough debts. Gruß, Gundolf Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz) ![]() |

I had a similar problem - and needed a way to permanently set Process Priority on a Windows XP machine. On my server (headless, administered through remote desktop) I run BOINC and a media server called PlayOn. BOINC and all of it's subprojects (specifically ClimatePrediction.net) were running at 'Normal' priority as was a media server use (PlayOn). Unfortunately, since BOINC will scale back if you move the mouse/keyboard - but does NOT recognize other resource demands (e.g. a spike in CPU usage by another progam) and scale back CPU usage in the same way -- my media server essentially became unusable because it did not get enough CPU time to browse quickly, and took forever to download and buffer streaming media from Netflix and Hulu. The solution I found was discussed here: http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2009/02/25/permanently-set-process-priority-in-windows-task-manager-with-prio/ ...and is available here for download (free for personal use): http://www.prnwatch.com/download.html Here is a link to my related post on the PlayOn forums: http://www.themediamall.com/forum/feedback/general-inquiries-amp-discussions/process-priority#comment-8593 This can be applied to any process (in XP anyway) - hopefully this will be helpful for someone out there... |

BOINC already sets low priority on all its processes. Also, this thread had nothing to do with process priorities, but with task priorities when scheduling what task to run next. |
