We're past BOINC 6. Can it do dual / multiple monitor screensavers yet?

If you have a videocard with multiple RAMDACs it can do it, else it still can't. The screen savers are still done in OpenGL 1.0/1.1 and you just require screen savers programmed in OpenGL 2.0

I'm running two different video cards in my system and both have one monitor connected.

Is that all I need or do the screen savers still need to be reprogrammed in OpenGL 2.0?

With two videocards in your system and two monitors attached, you should be able to show the same screen saver on both the monitors.

As long as the project you're attach to has a graphics application, you aren't using some optimized for speed science applications (which usually disable the graphics content, as that's not speedy), you aren't using the GPUs to crunch CUDA with and you set everything up correctly so you can do dual monitor on the desktop. I think you need to have stretched the desktop to the second monitor as well, but you have to check the documentation of your videocard drivers for that.

You can't show the screen saver of one project on one monitor and that of another project on the second monitor. BOINC can't do that.

Ah ok. That's what I'm really looking for (showing a screensaver of one project on one monitor and the screensaver of another project on another monitor). Maybe BOINC will have this capability within the next couple of years.

Wouldn't that require that an OS be able to run more than one screensaver at a time? I haven't heard that any OS can do this. But then I haven't exactly been keeping up with OS developments.

There are programs that let you do this like UltraMon.

In UltraMon, it shows your monitors, you click on each monitor and choose a screensaver to show on it.

The problem is that BOINC is listed as a screensaver. It doesn't list each project as a separate screensaver.

You may need to be a bit careful with words here.
BOINC isn't a screensaver, so it's best to say that it's listed as having an associated screensaver.

This screensaver just picks up whatever project supplied image is available, for the project that's currently being crunched. I don't know how it handles the case of multi-core processors crunching several different projects/work units at the same time.

It shows the project screen savers with a couple of minutes interval, before switching back to the BOINC screen saver.

No. It would require the BOINC screensaver to run more than one graphics application at a time on different screen positions.
