I recently upgraded BOINC to 6.6.36 with wxWidgets version 2.8.7. I have SETI and QMC as attached projects. I recently noticed that I am getting email-activity related messages from my antivirus software (AVG Anti-virus Free version 8.5.392). One of the messages involves a domain 251-81-ftth-onsnettein...(that was all I was able to copy before the message disappeared - I have since turned on email logging in AVG and hopefully will catch the entire address soon).
My question: Does any BOINC or project software use email (SMTP) for communication? If not I need to start looking for the source of the infection ASAP.

Boinc pings Google.com when it can't contact a project to check if there is Internet connectivity.
