using BOINC 6.6.36 on win64 Firefox is my default browser.

Herein lies the problem. If I click on the links provided by the projects on the BOINC manager projects tab I get a message stating that BOINC cannot connect to the website and I need to check my the spelling of the address. Here's the annoying part. After giving me the message it loads the page properly. Is this a bug in 6.6.36

Make sure you set up your Firefox browser to be really the default browser, not just in the browser itself, but in the OS as well.

This is a Windows OS.

Vista way: control panel, programs, set default programs, firefox, set firefox as default.

XP: Control Panel, Add or Remove programs, Set Program Access and defaults, Custom, choose web browser, select firefox.

I take that back. It didn't fix the problem. I'm betting this is a local phenomenon where BOINC attempts to connect to a server and when it doesnt get a prompt response it thinks theres a problem even thought Firefox connects correctly

update to .38 and see if it does it....

BOINC connecting to a server uses a different connection than you clicking a button in the Manager. They are unrelated.

Clicking a project link button just activates an HTML/PHP link (you can check that, the links for the buttons are in the account_*.xml files), which tells your OS that a browser should be started. BOINC communicating with schedulers uses HTTP(S) through libCurl.

So for the first thing, if another browser has taken over again as default browser, you will have to go back through Add/Remove Programs->Set Program Access and Defaults etc. to set your browser of choice to be the default again.

As for BOINC trying to connect to a server/scheduler and it not getting a prompt answer... how prompt is prompt? For scheduler cases it usually waits 5 minutes before timing out. Do you have any examples of what you mean? Can you post the messages of the affected contact?

Or explain in somewhat more than one confusing sentence what you see and what you think should happen, giving examples etc.

Does it specifically say to check the spelling, or does it say that the url is incorrect?
I'm thinking of the situation where, in the past, some projects had several urls, all of which still work, but now that BOINC has a built in link to projects, only one of the urls is "allowed".
e.g. cpdn is climatepredictiuon.net, both with and without www in front. Only the one without the www is now "allowed".

I do believe it says the URL is incorrect. this doesnt prevent the boinc manager from actually connecting to the url. Like I said its an annoying bug

correction it tells me to check my spelling that it couldn't find the url... then FF pops up and loads the page
