You can set up how much room BOINC can use, but 20MB is not worth the effort in my opinion. Depending on the project you want to run and with applications downloaded, that leaves even less for tasks to be stored. Don't you have another drive you can install BOINC its data directory to? |

umts means he's talking about a bandwidth (communications) limit - using a mobile phone or similar - not a storage limit. Still... the advice would then change to get a better bandwidth. The applications take up quite a big swat of the download. And is the 20MB for downloads only, or also for uploads? What else is included for that 20MB max a day? |

20 Mb are for both things. My telephone provider company impose a limit of 20 Mb but I'd like, anyway, to give my little contribution |

Why not simply set the computing preferences regarding network usage to: - Use the network for one hour only - Set max. download and upload rate to a combined 5 Kbytes/sec (4 down + 1 up or 3 down + 2 up) This way it'll stay below 20 Mb a day. My Q8300 stays busy about 18 hours and gets work in and out in half an hour on my trusty 56k modem, but that really depends on the projects you connect to. I wouldn't recommend choosing projects based purely on network usage; rather choose some you believe to be worth your time and see how they use your bandwidth. |

Strange! Does anyone know why?
If you go to download.com and do a search for 'throttle bandwidth' you'll find several. SoftPerfect Bandwidth Manager looks promising but I have no experience with any of them. |

The download limit works fine as built into Boinc on my computer. Non-integers seem to confuse it as does '1' which is possibly simply too small. But otherwise it sticks to the limit. Don't pay attention to the speed value as posted in the transfer tab; that appears to be a temporary maximum rather than an average. I couldn't test the upload limit as the file sizes are simply too small. |
