Can anyone say when a new version of the BOINC software will be installable on a domain controller? I have a Windows 2008 64 bit server on my home network and it mostly sits there doing very little. I'm currently using 5.10.45 on it and it's all fine. I saw something on Google that said 6.4.5 would install - it won't. |

You have a CUDA graphics card on a domain controller? ;-) That's the only reason for installing v6.4.5 that I know of: just stick with the v5.10.45 if you don't need CUDA. But it's good to keep reminding them of the promise they made with the release of v6.2.4: - WINSETUP: Block installing on domain controllers for this release. |

I asked the developers. They can't put a time or date on it, but don't expect it before BOINC 6.10 and probably later than that. |

This isn't really very clever. As a matter of fact, I've got a couple of CUDA-compliant graphics cards that would sit nicely in my Dell workstation with 64bit Windows 2008 server.. Ageless you answered a different thread saying this is an installer issue; well then use a different one now. |

Ageless you answered a different thread saying this is an installer issue; well then use a different one now. Too bad it isn't that easy. I was making it sound easy as that, but it isn't. The more complete answer goes like this: Ozzfan wrote: Domain controllers separate local user accounts from Domain accounts. BOINC is not designed to make the sandboxed accounts in Active Directory, but in the local user accounts. Domain Controllers do not have local accounts because they must run Active Directory in order to authenticate users logging on to the network. Ergo, BOINC v6, with its sandboxed accounts, cannot run on Domain Controllers. Read this thread (on Seti) for more. |
