I have Boinc on my home computer, and I would like to use it at school. (it's okay with my teacher). But we can't install programs with an msi, so can I just take the BOINC folder from Program Files and copy it to the school computer's hard drive. Will it work, or will my preferences not get saved? Thanks all |

can't install programs with an msi Can you upload results to the internet from the school computer? If so, I would install BOINC _again_ on your _home_ computer, but in a different folder well away from the current install, saying "no" to both the "startup" and "screensaver" questions. Stop "your" BOINC before doing this... Then run the "new" BOINC and attach to project, download work, and get started. Stop the "new" BOINC, and burn a CD containing that entire "new" BOINC folder. Take that and put it on your school computer. (You can't just take the existing one unless you run it completely out of work first, it'll get very confused about duplicated work.) If you can't upload results from the school computer, which is very possible if they have a firewall running, then it's going to be much harder, probably not practical. You'll have to carry that folder back and forth to someplace that _does_ have access, overwriting the correct one each time. |

thanks for the help, I didn't even need to to do all that (I did understand though, it was very clear). I just copied what I have now to the school machine, and detached, and re-attached with my email...works perfectly again, thanks for the advice |
