I have BOINC installed in two different machines (same default preferences on both). One installation (laptop) works fine. The other (desktop) will not process unless "Commands" is set to "Run Always". Otherwise, if it is set to "Run Based on Preferences" BOINC's screen saver comes up but just states that "BOINC is currently suspended" and no processing takes place. As soon as I set it to "Run Always" it works just fine ????? GL |

Windows 98 perhaps? That's the most likely guess, but we'd need much more info to be able to tell you anything. In general, and assuming your preferences say "run only when computer not busy", but there are no limits on hours of day or anything like that, the problem usually winds up being that Win98 seems to _always_ think the computer is busy. If not Win98, look for some other program that is running at a higher-than-idle priority. Some anti-virus programs and such will make it seem "busy". Also scan for any adware or spyware. And double-check your preferences to be sure it really SHOULD be running, based on what you've set. If none of the above, tell us what OS, what version of BOINC, what the preferences are, and so on, and we'll try to help. Also, unless you've already tried it and found you're one of the 0.1% who have a problem, it's probably better to just LET it "run always". BOINC is at such an extremely low priority, it's very good at getting out of the way. |
