I have a Slak linux box that I used to run setiathome on, but boinc keeps telling me"FATAL: kernel too old". Spec says upwards of 2.2.14 should be ok, I'm on 2.4.26. Anyone have any idea on this? |

Which BOINC version are you using? Did you get it from your package manager or from Berkeley? |

Downloaded from Berkley, http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php, using 5.10.45. Output looks like this, where it hangs and repeats: 16-Nov-2008 15:34:27 [SETI@home] Scheduler request succeeded: got 1 new tasks 16-Nov-2008 15:34:29 [SETI@home] Started download of 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151 16-Nov-2008 15:34:32 [SETI@home] Finished download of 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151 16-Nov-2008 15:34:33 [SETI@home] Starting 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151_0 16-Nov-2008 15:34:33 [SETI@home] Starting task 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 603 FATAL: kernel too old 16-Nov-2008 15:34:34 [SETI@home] Computation for task 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151_0 finished 16-Nov-2008 15:34:34 [SETI@home] Output file 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151_0_0 for task 12oc08ab.8246.16023.16.8.151_0 absent 16-Nov-2008 15:35:35 [SETI@home] Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. I don't know anything about linux versions/brands, but you could try to run setiathome_enhanced version 5.27 instead of 6.03. I was forced to do so, because windows NT4 is no longer supported. See this thread at the SETI Message boards. I know, it's about windows, but the procedure should be quite the same for unix (my annotations there too :-).
