Hello y'all,

My BOINC manager (6.3.17 but also version 6.2.19 before) recently started showing errors like the one below:

10/31/2008 2:25:18 PM||Internal error: expected process to be executing

Both hosts are laptops that I suspend when I need to travel from and to work. The option to leave WUs in the memory is not checked.

What could be the problem?

that I suspend when I need to travel

Does this mean that you Suspend BOINC?
Or that you hibernate the computers?

Also, which OS?

Status update:

I tried to suspend BOINC before shutting down the computer (running XP SP2) and also tried the same using the services console to properly pause or stop the BOINC service (same results).
In the meantime I also updated to 6.3.21 but no difference - the WUs still crash/error out on this particular machine.

Strangely, this does not happen on my desktops (XP SP3+Vista SP1) nor on another laptop (Vista SP1).

Here is an extract of the stdoutdae.txt:

10-Nov-2008 13:07:04 [yoyo@home] [error] Process creation failed: A required privilege is not held by the client. (0x522)
10-Nov-2008 13:07:05 [Enigma@Home] Starting awgly100_0_2594618_r0_0
10-Nov-2008 13:07:05 [Enigma@Home] [error] Process creation failed: A required privilege is not held by the client. (0x522)

The error codes 0x522 are pointing to an issue with the user account privileges (for boinc_master) but un- and reinstalling BOINC made no difference. It is also not happening in every combination of given projects. Currently, Enigma and Yoyo are coexisting peacefully without any problem.

Thanks
Roland

I resolved this error a couple weeks back by complete removal and reinstall of BOINC. Today, on my work computer the IT org sent a security update down the wire and now the error has returned.

Would a BOINC developer PLEASE list what rights the boinc_master and/or boinc_project must have. I would prefer to tweak the security settings and not remove/reinstall BOINC because I think this will be a re-occuring failure for me.

Any idea which update it was?

Assuming it's a Windows system, Local Security Policy should have the following settings for BOINC users and groups in the User Rights Assignment:

  • Adjust memory quotas for a process - boinc_admins and boinc_projects groups

  • Bypass traverse checking - boinc_admins, boinc_projects and boinc_users groups

  • Create global objects - boinc_admins and boinc_projects groups

  • Debug programs - boinc_admins and boinc_projects groups

  • Deny access to this computer from the network - boinc_project user

  • Log on as a service - boinc_master and boinc_project users

  • Replace a process level token - boinc_admins and boinc_users groups
