After downloading version 6.2.19 and clicking on "run", the program came back with "Downloads.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close...". Clicking on "To see what this error report contains..." lists the update .exe file, AppVer 10.1.0.238 ModName: kmw_dll.dll, ModVer 6.3.4.2, Offset 00002fc8. File contained in error report is b5cc_appcompat.txt.


My system is Dell PC Win Xp, 3Gb Ram, 3.86MHz, 500Gb HD

Please assist.

Downloads.exe is not a part of BOINC, nor is kmw_dll.dll

Both are part of a virus, worm or trojan. Use a good anti virus program to scan your system for malware.
