I have just downloaded BOINC as my old Seti@home client is telling me that it will not be useful after 12/15. (I've been a Seti@home user since the beginning in 1998) I have not been able to connect to BOINC project yet, seti@home or otherwise. I have gone through the "Attach to Project" dialog a number of times, selecting the SEti@home URL each time. Most times the dialog with complete, but end with a message saying that it failed to attach to a project. I see few, if any, bytes travelling over my dialup connection, so I'm not even sure that the manager contacted the server. I am using the following: Windows XP Pro Norton Internet Security I have turned off the Norton Firewall to see if that would solve the problem, but that did not work either. Does anyone have any idea how I can attach a project and get started using BOINC? |

Does anyone have any idea how I can attach a project and get started using BOINC? SETI is down at the moment - two issues. One, their servers are extremely overloaded with all the new users, and there are internet problems making it hard for people to connect. Between those two things, no work is being uploaded and very little is being downloaded. The estimate is still "a couple of days" at least before connections are decent again. Second, it's Wednesday, and SETI shuts down every Wednesday for three or four hours to do backups and maintenance. If you're interested only in SETI, best I can tell you is wait until the weekend or Monday to try to attach. If you're interested in other projects, you should be able to attach to them without any problems. Make sure you have registered with the project and have received the connection email; the URL to plug in to the dialog, given in the email, is not the same as the webpage URL in most cases. |
