I am running a web server on my machine, but I would love to also run BIONC however, it seems as though BOINC is built to use port 80 for some reason. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get BOINC to run on a different port, etc? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Port 80 has been assigned to Boinc (by ICANN, maybe), as have ports 1043 and 31416.

BOINC has to use port 80 to access the webserver on the remote end. I wouldn't _think_ this would be a problem - I mean, your browser has to access port 80, and you can run a browser and a webserver!

Is there a way to restrict BOINC's use of port 80 to 'outgoing' as if it were a browser?

I run Apache on my PowerMac as a testbed for my old web site and some other things. No issues. BOINC works fine.

I run Apache on my PowerMac as a testbed for my old web site and some other things. No issues. BOINC works fine.

When I start BOINC first, when I try to start my webserver it fails because of a JVM bind error (port in use). If I start my webserver first, then when I try to start BOINC it can't connect to localhost. It pops up a message saying "Password you have provided is incorrect". However, there is no admin password, and it works fine if the webserver isn't going. I assume this message is because of a similar bind issue, it just isn't caught low level and ends up generating that popup as a catch all. Any advice from anyone?

That would be port 1043... any way the webserver is grabbing _that_ port?

Ah ha! port 1043 WAS the issue. Thanks for the heads up on that one. I finally have it working!
