I've upgraded from v5.10.45 on Windows Vista to stop the annoying blocked startup issue, only to be replaced with a more annoying "A reboot is required in order for BOINC to run properly. Please reboot your computer and try again." I've rebooted several times and it makes no difference - I can't start BOINC manager.

I've added my user to the boinc_admins and boinc_projects groups (and rebooted, just in case) but it makes no difference.

Can anyone shed any light please?

Thanks,
AC

Just delete the RebootPending.txt file in C:\Program Files\BOINC.

I am puzzled as to why that file wasn't deleted for you after a reboot though.

Hohoho how simple! Thanks.

In case it's useful for diagnosis, this is Vista 32 Business + sp1 on a domain, my running user does not have administrative privileges (installed under a local machine account), I installed to "C:\Less Secure Program Files\BOINC" on top of v5.10.45 and the screensaver kicked in before I'd saved everything and rebooted first time.

Thanks again,
AC

The Big BOINC 6 Answer Thread.

Quote:

Domain Controller Incompatibility
The present range of BOINC 6.2 is incompatible with Domain Controllers, meaning that you cannot install it on your system if it is a DC. This is because the developers used the Local Account API's instead of the Global Account API's.

A fix for this will be available in BOINC 6.4
