Hello,

When I start up BOINCManager it asks to coonect to a computer to which I put in 'localhost' but I have no idea what to put in as the password as I have not been given one.

Regards,

Daniel, what version of BOINC are you running? Have you successfully run BOINC in the past and attached to projects? Does it do this only when you restart the computer and it automatically runs, or even if you quit and relaunch it? If you leave the computer _and_ password blank and hit "okay" does it work?

If you are running a version older than 5.2.13, I would recommend upgrading to that version. If you are running 5.2.13 already, there is a 5.2.14 being tested right now with another "fix" for the problem you are describing - it should be available today or tomorrow.

I am running 5.2.13 and have previously been running 5.2.8 and wanted to upgrade.

Where can I get a copy of 5.2.14?

When I go into 'File' and then 'Select Computer' from the tabs it asks for a local computer name and password.

I put in 'localhost' but have no idea what the pasword is!

Why are you doing this? "Select computer" is to allow you to remotely control a different computer. Are you trying to control some other computer on your network?

Let's try again...

When I start up 5.2.12 from scratch the first thing I get is an error message:

Could not recognise password, please try again?

Apparently this version of BOINC needs a password to connect to local_host. Th
is password I do not know.

It does this even when I quit and relaunch it.

I am sorry, I don't understand what you mean by this.

While 5.2.14 has not yet finished testing, it _may_ solve this problem. Link is here. Be aware that this is NOT yet the "recommended" version - it may have other bugs that we don't know about.

Normally when this "connect" message comes up at launch, if you type nothing - leave it blank - do not try to type "localhost" and a password - and just hit "ok", it should then work. If not, then 5.2.14 is the only thing I can think of that might help.

There _is_ a randomly assigned password in the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file, but you should not need it unless you are using "select computer", which you should not be doing.
