Jurgen: The key to Ubuntu Linux is a utility called Adept Manager. Do a search for BOINC and select what you need. If everyone is thinking alike, someone isn't thinking. - General George Patton |

Does anyone know how to install the new download? Same way essentially as the old one: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_on_Linux |

If I may use another users thread, can I ask if it's possible to get Boinc to start up automatically on Ubuntu? :) |

If I may use another users thread, can I ask if it's possible to get Boinc to start up automatically on Ubuntu? :) How did you install BOINC? I'm not a *buntu person, but it depends on if you used the package manager or if you installed by hand. Kathryn :o) |

Check the available list of Starting BOINC on boot (Unix). There is a script available for all kinds of Ubuntu. |

I used the add/remove option. Maybe this week sometime I'll fix grub (grumble grumble stupid Fedora broke grub again grumble grumble grumble), boot over to Kubuntu and install with apt (if I even remember how to work apt). I guess I should have some basic knowledge of how things work over in the *buntu world. /me still prefers RH over Deb Kathryn :o) |

I'm curious to know if it's necessary to put a link to gui_rpc_auth.cfg in the home directory in order to get manager to connect to client without typing the password, like on Fedora. No it's not. It works fine as is. :) |

If I may use another users thread, can I ask if it's possible to get Boinc to start up automatically on Ubuntu? :) I'm reasonably sure it already does in the the newer versions, but you need to edit /etc/default/boinc-client in the older versions and set ENABLED="1". |

Solved the connection problem, But need to update from 5.4.9 to 5.10.45. Does anyone know how to install the new download? 5.4.9 is the version available in the dapper (v 6.06) repositories. 5.10.45 is the version available in the hardy (v 8.04) repositories. Presumably you've installed 6.06 and installed BOINC from the repositories. You can upgrade to (or install) 8.04 in order to get access to v5.10.45 or remove 5.4.9 and download and install the BOINC package from the Berkeley website. [edit] download_all.php is probably a more desirable target than download.php. [/edit] |
