Purely out of curiosity, why do two Explorer sessions open when I ask BOINC to connect to a project web site?

Which BOINC version?

I thought this bug was stamped out a long time ago, so if you're not using at least a 5.10 version, then consider to upgrade.

Ah and which Internet Explorer version on which Windows?

BOINC - 5.10.45, which I am given to understand is the latest version for Windows. I have, by the way, faithfully updated to every production release of BOINC since at least 4.05... 17 update versions by my count.

IE = 6.0.2900.5512, which is to say version 6 with SP3 (yes, "3").

Windows/XP with SP3. I installed the official Microsoft version of SP3 yesterday (5/7/08), but this business of two IE sessions has been going on for quite some time... prior to updating to 5.10.45, if memory serves.

I can confirm this: it happens with 5.8.16 under NT4 and with 5.10.45 under XP SP2 (and did with 5.10.28 and 5.10 30), both with IE.

The IE session that BOINC opens is always the second (or later) one. The first (empty) one is only created if there's no other IE session already open.
