If I try to donwload work or send results when I'm connected via ADSL using a dLink 604t adsl/router I get: 29/11/2005 8:37:12 p.m.|SETI@home|Requesting 4 seconds of new work 29/11/2005 8:40:07 p.m.|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed with a return value of 500 29/11/2005 8:40:07 p.m.|SETI@home|No schedulers responded When I remove the ADSL connection and use dialup no problems? I'm using 5.2.12. |

Hi It may not be dialup vs adsl related. The server often gives a 500 error when it drops a connection. Having said that it also gives a 500 for incomplete packets which can be a route problem; usually reliable delivery being suspect. I have seen this error because of a bad cable on a LAN and I have seen it because a router somewhere in the US is dropping packets. I would keep trying with adsl and see if it goes away. If not fill up on dial up and then take a look at cabling, connectors etc your end. Happy to help after that if you still need it. Regards Ian |

Hi Trying to rule in or out the IPX protocol. Just reading a bit on IPX/TCP/IP mixing = potentially bad news. Would be interested to know if anyone with server 500 error problems is running IPX or NetBEUI please? This may be related but need to gather some evidence. Thanks. Sorry to repeat across threads but need the thread owner to take a look thanks. |

It's a Seti problem, Ian. People can attach to Einstein and other projects without a problem. Only Seti gives the problem. So don't ask people to attach IPX/SPX and Netbeui when on XP. It won't help! |

Still looks like an Adsl Vs Dialup config issue. Below I was on ADSL (no connection) then connected uisng dialup and it connects ok. Thanks for your comments, let me know if you want to try anything to resolve the ADSL issue. I'm using a Dlink G604TADSL router which has a built in firewall, are there any settings I need to change in it, or an address I can try pinging? This has been an issue since version 4.x Thanks Michael |

Still looks like an Adsl Vs Dialup config issue. I am as far from a network guru as you can get, but on the SETI Number Crunching forum, it appears someone has found the solution to the "500" errors, or at least most of them. Somewhere between you and Berkeley, something is choking on "too large" an MTU... someone who has a clue will have to explain what that is and how to make it smaller on your PC... One thread is http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=23088 and there are others. |

you might want to try this article, it helped when i changed from dialup to adsl to get round the faulty router problem, try pinging setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu instead of your local rounter, keep lowering the MTU value till it reply sucessfully |
