BOINC was running fine for a few hours, then all of a sudden,I get an error "BOINC manager is not able to connect to a BOINC client". IT WAS RUNNING FINE. I haven't made any changes to the computer at all. When I close BOINC and restart it, my projects appear for about 3 seconds, then everything blanks out and the error message appears. I have tried to repair BOINC, but I still get the error. Before I get suggestions of "check your firewall settings", please note that IT WAS RUNNING FINE FOR SEVERAL HOURS TODAY before this error showed up, and I've been running BOINC for a little over a year on this computer without this problem. |

This sounds similar to another current thread, here So, are you using Vista? Did you install in the default location? |

Hello, Same here, running fine almost a year under vista business(Boinc 5.10.30), then "can't connect to local host". Struggling since more than 2 hrs, uninstall boinc 5.10.30, install boinc 5.10.45 in f:Boinc(not program file), diabled user account... Is it an april fools day prank ? note: no problem under Win XP based computers! Marc |

I just talked to a BOINC helper on skype, who determined that BOINC.exe crashes whenever it's started. I have installed the newest version of BOINC, and I still get the same exact problem. |

Did start client by hand (from the folder) running ok, but manager can not connect to client. |

Found out what the problem was. Apparently there's a problem with trying to upload to LHC that causes BOINC.exe to crash. "You can try to edit the client_state.xml file, scroll all the way down and edit the network option to show <user_network_request>3</user_network_request> That means you suspended network activity. " - taken from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=2563#16170 I did this and it worked, BOINC.exe didn't crash on start up. I'll try to upload my work when LHC is back up and running. |

Yep, that'll work. But now one has to decide how long they want to wait for the LHC server to back on-line to upload outstanding WU's to get credit for processing time. In the meantime no new WU's can be received, and no other WU's can be uploaded either. Advice: check your project WU deadlines and adjudicate accordingly. There is a scheme to get rid of problem child LHC WU's stuck in the upload transfer queue. |

Since yesterday, four of my machines are unable to run Boinc -- with the exact problem described here. I'll try the fix recommended above and let you know if it works. |

I'm curious- from http://distributedcomputing.info/projects.html, I get LHC unreachable, and their website still shows down for maintenance. Can anyone confirm LHC is up? |

Being a little gun-shy, I thought I'd wait. I've connected, and the LHC units uploaded just fine. We're good to go. |

Being a little gun-shy, I thought I'd wait. I was trying to debug BOINC to see why it was crashing when the upload happened. BOINC WIKI |
