i received the email. followed the instructions to switch my account from seti to boinc. no problem. received the account key in an email, downloaded the program. no problem. program automatically launches...and stalls. (i'm using mac, os x.) so i eventually have to force quit. i try a few more times. same result. i try to find support. try to post to this board, but first i have to enter my account key. ok. go back to the email, copy the account key, paste it into the text box, and guess what? my account number doesn't exist! well, how the heck could it not exist when you sent it to me??? no support email address. no one to help. my morning is wasted. thanks. |

apparently one must reboot. here's an idea for the software engineers: make it so that a dialog box comes up and says "You must restart your computer for BOINC to work." what a BRILLIANT idea, don't you think? i should be a software engineer! |

BOINC 5.* is fairly new, and unfortunately projects haven't had time to update instructions before the massive flood of SETI classic users hit them. |

The email came from SETI. You are at BOINC. Two different things, and the account key you were sent will get you logged on to the SETI boards. I'm not going to excuse the lousy job UCB did of communicating with Classic folks though. You're totally correct there. As for Mac support - any questions you may have, I will be happy to help, and I'm sure others will too. Yours is the first case I've heard of having to reboot, _unless_ you somehow tried to use "Select Computer". That option is for remotely controlling other computers from one central one, and the Mac version seems to have trouble getting "back" to your localhost - which can sometimes be solved by a reboot. If you need to control other Macs, see the Wiki, specifically here but be aware that I have yet to make it work "cross platform", controlling PCs from Macs or vice-versa. |
