After going round and round trying to get converted from running SETI to BOINC, I finally got BOINC running on my PC (XP SP2). But now when I startup my maching I have to manually run BOINC. How do I get it to start up in the System Tray at boot time?

Also, is there a way to suspend all BOINC activity until the screensaver is activated? In other words, do BOINC work only when the screensaver starts.

Use
"C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\boincmgr.exe" /s
instead of
"C:\\Program Files\\BOINC\\boincmgr.exe"

(Start / Programs / Start Up / BOINC - rightclick - Properties)

yep, tried that but the manager comes up with "connection failed", so then I gotta manually do it. Guess I'll try the uninstall/reinstall route.

Steve, please try the latest BOINC version for Windows
5.2.11:

* Fix: Do not launch the wizards until after a connection to the core client has been established.
* Win: Fixes a BOINC Manager connection issue when the manager is waiting on a firewall for the all clear. This generally happens after a reboot.
* Win: Fixes the 'connection failed' message when another program is using the BOINC communication port.

OK, thanks...I'll give the new build a try. Just installed 5.2.10 this morning, though, and things seem to be OK.

Anyone got any ideas about my second question: is there a way to suspend all BOINC activity until the screensaver is activated? In other words, do BOINC work only when the screensaver starts.

Go to your preferences, set the option "Do work while computer is in use?" to No.
Set the option "Do work only after computer is idle for x minutes" to the amount of time you want to give it.
Save changes on the website.

Open Boinc Manager, go to the Projects tab, select the Seti@Home project by clicking on it, press the Update button on the left.

Go to your desktop, rightclick it, properties, Screen saver, select it to be BOINC. Set your other options. Make sure your Wait time here at least equalizes the Idle time you set on the webpage.

Then save the changes there and sit back and wait.
Once your computer goes idle, the screensaver will kick in together with Seti crunching. As soon as you move the mouse or touch a key on the keyboard, BOINC will suspend activities, in other words pause the crunching of Seti.

Yes. Log into any of your project websites and edit your account. under the general preferences set "Do work while computer is in use?" to No. Then BOINC will only run when screen saver kicks in (not in use). This preference will be distributed to your other computers and projects when they upload/download or you manually select update.
