are you aware of any compatibility issues with Boinc (version 5.10.28) running on vista (x86)? I tend to leave my pc on and recently I've noticed that when I log back into my session, I seem to have run time error dialog boxes, and when I click on 'OK', I get a message box saying that BOINC has stopped responding?

Yes, lots of compatibility issues. We could even say "it's guaranteed to have problems". It's being worked on, but it needs some major changes. Vista support will be official in BOINC 6.x.
