I've been running Einstein@Home happily on Fedora 6 and 7. Ever since I've upgraded to Fedora 8 I can't get the manager to run. I always get:

> ./run_manager
boincmgr: xcb_xlib.c:41: xcb_xlib_lock: Assertion `!c->xlib.lock' failed.
Aborted

Deleting and resinstalling hasn't cleared the problem. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? What can I do to get it running again? All help appreciated.

Try this.

Incidentally, yesterday openSUSE patched the xlib library to resolve the problem via the openSUSE updater, I'm sure the other distributions will be doing so as well. I haven't tried the update yet.

Sad to say, that didn't have any effect that I could tell.

I'm happy to give machine cycles to BOINC when the s/w works on my machine again.

I'll keep updating my Fedora and see if anything changes.

In the other case... is this BOINC 5.10.28 by chance?
If so, then you are almost bound to only use the command line version.
From here:
Howdy Folks,

I have released a newer Linux client for testing. Please note, we have had a policy change, we will be releasing a command line compatible with as many Linux distro’s as possible package, and a Ubuntu 7.10 specific package with a GTK2 based GUI. I would be interested to know if the Ubuntu release will work with any other distros.

I rebooted my machine just now to check if the new xlib patch works, and I'm glad to report that it has fixed the problem.
