I am a long time Seti@home member. I have no proxy server set up on my Seti client. I currently have a dial-up connection because I am a Tightwad. I have downloaded the Boinc manager but I know zip about setting up proxies. To attach to a project I need to know what to enter into each of the boxes--server, port, name, and password. I tried a couple of things without success. If no one can identify the information I need to set up proxies, or indicate where this informatin is to be found, it's tits up for my Seti@home account, which dates from May 1999. Worse, I won't be able to process any units for other projects. Current Boinc! Manager help may be adequate for computer geeks of the Wizard class and higher, but is totally inadequate for the general public. |

Boinc asks for proxy info if the connection is to slow and it is slow right now, so try the following; You need to go to the "Change password" link on the "Your account" page this is a direct link and set up a password. Then reboot...Use that instead of your account key when you connect to the project. The "Getting Started" instructions haven't been updated with the procedure required for the current version of BOINC. I am a long time Seti@home member. I have no proxy server set up on my Seti client. I currently have a dial-up connection because I am a Tightwad. I found the Wiki Boinc page. It did not help. However, I tried opening the Boinc Manager from the icon in the Boinc directory rather than the Boinc Manager in my tray. This seems to have worked. I now have Seti@home in the Projects list and it appears to be downloading. There is also a list of gobbledigook in the messages folder. One item "Missing account key" is in red type. Status of Seti@home is now "communicating". Hopefully the client is working. |
