I run the 5.10.28 64 Bit version with Ubuntu 7.10 for several days now and here are the bugs/problems compared the the previous version: 1. Everytime I start BOINC I get this error message: ------------------------------ BOINC Manager Error can't open user configuration file '/home/den/.BOINC Manager'. Failed to convert file "/home/den/.BOINC Manager" to Unicode. 21:19:49 can't open user configuration file '/home/den/.BOINC Manager' to Unicode. 21:19:49 ------------------------------ 2. The main window always opens in a smaller size, even though I always maximize it before closing it - the old version always opened maximized (i.e.: the last size?). 3. All table columns in the tabs with tables are reset to some small widths - no matter how often I resize them ... on next start they're small again. :-( 4. For long running times (more than 24 hours) suddenly all tasks fail. The internet connectionj is also gone. I have to restart again and the tasks get reported with error. The only good new is that it looks prettier now as it uses the system look&feel / theme. BOINC 7.2.42 (x86_64) on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (64 Bit), AMD APU 7850K 3.7 GHz, 32 GB RAM. |

2. The main window always opens in a smaller size, even though I always maximize it before closing it - the old version always opened maximized (i.e.: the last size?). That has been happening to me on Windows for quite a while. 3. All table columns in the tabs with tables are reset to some small widths - no matter how often I resize them ... on next start they're small again. :-( 2. and 3. seem to be related to 1., problems loading the manager settings. |

2. The main window always opens in a smaller size, even though I always maximize it before closing it - the old version always opened maximized (i.e.: the last size?). It just started happening to me on Fedora. It's a bloody pain in the butt. 3. All table columns in the tabs with tables are reset to some small widths - no matter how often I resize them ... on next start they're small again. :-( Ditto on this. It's a 32 bit system. 2. and 3. seem to be related to 1., problems loading the manager settings. Except I never get those errors. How much of this is .28 being a Ubuntu specific build. I had to soft link to libs to get it to work, but neither of those should have anything to do with the GUI. One was libssl.so.0.9.8 and the other was libcrypto.so.0.9.8. Kathryn :o) |

2. The main window always opens in a smaller size, even though I always maximize it before closing it - the old version always opened maximized (i.e.: the last size?). In addition, BOINC always starts in the simple view - the old versions started in the last view when I quit BOINC last time. Is there any solution for this problem with ".BOINC Manager" configuration file? I don't have such a file - neither in my user's home directory nor in the BOINC installation directory. :-( BOINC 7.2.42 (x86_64) on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (64 Bit), AMD APU 7850K 3.7 GHz, 32 GB RAM. |

Okay, some progress: I found the file ".BOINC Manager" in my home directory. I checked if it had read/write rights for my user - it had. Then I looked into the file and found some strange characters - german Umlauts were displayed as funny boxes and strange chars. I replaced them with non-Umlauts and started again. No success. But suddenly the .BOINC Manager file lost almost all of it's content (only 137 Byte instead of my backed up 4,2 KB). And after another restart, the error message finally vanished! So, it seems that there is a problem with special characters in this file and perhaps the new BOINC version tries to vonvert this file and can't read it therefore. Other than that, BOINC manager still starts always with the simple view. And changing to the advanced view never remembers it's size, position, etc. BOINC 7.2.42 (x86_64) on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (64 Bit), AMD APU 7850K 3.7 GHz, 32 GB RAM. |

Close the manager, delete the file, open manager again. Should re-generate it with defaults (not like you had any usable setting on it anyway). |

Close the manager, delete the file, open manager again. Should re-generate it with defaults (not like you had any usable setting on it anyway). Woo Hoo! That fixed 99% of my problems too. Only thing is that it STILL insists on not opening maximized. But it's remembering column size AND the projects I had selected in the stats tab. We'll see if that survives the nightly shutdown/restart for log rotation. Kathryn :o) |

We'll see if that survives the nightly shutdown/restart for log rotation. And it did. I'm amazed by the brilliance of the BOINC collective mind. Kathryn :o) |

What's still not working: everytime when I exit BOINC manager it requests confirmation. No matter if I check the box to not ask again, it asks every time ... BOINC 7.2.42 (x86_64) on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (64 Bit), AMD APU 7850K 3.7 GHz, 32 GB RAM. |
