Thank you, Ageless, for hiding my stupidity. I created a founder account and a team using tacommittee at gmail dot com. Since then I have been unable to log in. Error message says no account with that address. Do I have to do it over? FWIW: I used https: during the original creation. Could this be a problem? --Fred |

Did you validate your email address? Although, if the server says that the email address hasn't been found, it may well be that you never saved the changes. What is the team name? |

Did you validate your email address? TeAm AnandTech Yes, we validated that address. However, that was done by another, so I don't know if it was done before I did the initial set up. I know it had been done before the next day when I tried to change a few things. I was apparently still logged in because I was able to change some team info. However, it showed the account but none of the links for profile or preferences worked. --Fred |

And you never got the account key sent to you? I got the account key sent to me when I set up my team. Check email and spam filters. Otherwise use this link to retrieve it. It would seem, the team was made correctly: TeAm AnandTech. Even though the teAm may be a typo. Or perhaps not, seeing how you typed it in your last post. ;-) |

Thanks, I've retrieved the key, I think. I've never accessed that email account, that was being done by our man in Sweden. So, you're saying we need that key to maintain the profile or is this a one time validation? --Fred |

No, no, the account key can be used to log in at any time. Just go to the log in site and instead of filling in the email address and password, fill in the account key at the appropriate slot. Log in with that, then check if your email address is set correctly and if need be change the password. The next time you log in you can then use the email/password combination. |

OK. I got the key, got in checked the password and email address, logged out and back in using the email and password, and everything worked. Except-- General-, BOINC-, and Message board-preferences were not reachable. Nor was the user profile. If this founder is distributed to the projects, we would like to have the profile sent along since it will explain the committee that was established for team maintenance. In another thread, I noticed some were concerned about the safety of the password during the project updates. I suggest you use something similar to the method MIT uses to distribute PGP. Project contacts BOINC requesting team info. BOINC places that info into a randomly-named temporary directory and sends the directory name to the project Project contacts BOINC via https to down load the info from that directory BOINC removes the directory after a few minutes Feel free to move this topic change anywhere you want. --Fred |

Except-- General-, BOINC-, and Message board-preferences were not reachable. Nor was the user profile. That's because there are no pages and no database behind those options. BOINC isn't a project. So those options aren't active. If this founder is distributed to the projects, we would like to have the profile sent along since it will explain the committee that was established for team maintenance. That's something you have to ask David Anderson about. For him to make it a possible feature, although I'm not sure it'll make it. You can find David's email address through the project people pages. In another thread, I noticed some were concerned about the safety of the password during the project updates. I suggest you use something similar to the method MIT uses to distribute PGP. That's also best sent to David, with a link to this thread. So he can post an answer here, if need be. It would be useful information for all to see. |

Slightly offtopic, but related to the thread title: I went to create a BOINC-wide team, and foolishly created my user account as the team account - I didn't quite realise it was a two-step process. I was hoping to get my user name for the boinc-wide login changed, as I don't want to be the same as the team name, and I can't create another account as the email (which is the same as some previously created teams) is already in use (from my stuff-up). The only contact I could find on the boinc-wide team page is David Baker - is this the right person for this sort of small stuff? And to clarify: For a boinc-wide team, I create a BOINC user account (here), then a team from that account? And as long as the email and team name is the same as those I've already created, they'll all get merged, and new teams with the same details created at all the other projects? Sorry if this is a bit basic - I've just stumbled across this feature and haven't read much about it yet, other than the page describing it. Thanks! |
