The forum software *really* needs a "mark all read" button, both at the thread display page, at the top level. Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

I'm not sure I follow. I wan to mark al' read, not all unread. The only way to do this today is to view each individual thread. Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

I think what Sekerob means is that when someone runs without cookies, or deletes his cookies at the end of the session, that the forums show up completely unread when logging in again. Although, not completely unread. I use a completely new Linux install at this moment and I only saw the top few threads in which was posted today as new. |

Hmmmm. I see that SETI and several other projects have implemented this. It is surprising to me that it was not implemented here first, and that it still has not been implemented here. Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

Please delete. Which? My post(s)? Or did you make a post that you later changed to "please delete"? Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

Oops, sorry! I meant my own. I said something and then decided it probably wasn't relevant. I wish we had the option to delete our own posts within the hour if nobody has yet replied. |

And I wish there was no edit option, provided that there is a preview option to "replace" it. Editing posts would really cause trouble with something forum-related I'm working on (zombie67 knows what I mean :D). |

If we lost the option to edit our posts within an hour I don't think the change would be very popular, even if there were a preview facility. Maybe I'm much more error-prone than most people here. |

It may be that having an edit option leads to sloppy posts. If people knew every post was final, we would probably be less impulsive and pay more attention... Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

If a post has a reply in draft, it should not be possible to delete a post, in fact, if a draft is in progress, editing should become disabled immediately. I agree. And if the thread has a reply in draft, the same should apply. Presumably we are talking about the possibility (sometime) of a preview feature on all boinc forums, not just this one? |

Presumably we are talking about the possibility (sometime) of a preview feature on all boinc forums, not just this one? The new feature I'm working on would have problems if edits are allowed. Posts are assumed to never change. My only alternative is making posts not available from the new interface until an hour passes (to make sure the post won't be edited anymore); doesn't sound like a good alternative. Having an option to preview messages before posting them would get rid of most needs for editing. And even if the edit option is not removed, a preview would still be really useful! And this definitely applies to all forums. I have no particular interest in this forum. |

I just wanted to mention that I had a preview before post feature in the forum code, and it's in use on the I2U2 site. But then Janus submitted his new revision of the forum code and my changes became an older fork. It's been on my list to merge my changes back into the new forum code, but it's also not been as high a priority as other things. I hope I can get to it later this fall, but if someone wanted to take the code for what's working now on I2U2 and make the (minor, I hope) changes to bring back preview before post then I'd be happy to make the code available. -- Eric Myers "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." -- William Butler Yeats |

Eric, I'm already working on it and it should hit SVN during the weekend. |
