I'm trying to install Boinc 5.10.7 for my MacBook Pro, but all attempts turned out to be fails. I ran disk utilities to check permissions and problems, but none has been found so far. My system is MacBook Pro with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz w/2GB memory 250GB HDD and OS is 10.4.10. I tried previous ver. of BOINC manager, but also the installation failed. If anyone knows anything about this situation, please let me know. |

Additional info from the installer log: This has been an ongoing problem -- I've had it in the last few upgrades. It seems to have something to do with particular commands that might be set in your .tcshrc or .cshrc file. See this post: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=1815&nowrap=true#11341 The point here is basically good -- although I've had the same problem with a .tcshrc. So, temporarily rename your .tcshrc, run the install again, then move your .tcshrc back. The install worked like a charm. Here's hoping the Mac guy will see this thread and get the problem resolved for the long term, though... |

*goes to email Charlie* Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've changed the installer to use the default sh shell (which is actually bash) beginning with the next release. Please let me know if this solves your problem. I think my use of csh was a holdover from scripts I had written for OS 10.2, where tcsh was the default shell. Apple changed the default shell to sh (bash) with OS 10.3. This change is mentioned in Apple's Technical Note tn2124. *goes to email Charlie* Thanks everyone for supporting me to solve the problem. It sounds like all I can do to it so far is to wait for the next release. I'm waiting for it. Thanks again. Galaksiafervojo |

I've changed the installer to use the default sh shell (which is actually bash) beginning with the next release. I have now released BOINC version 5.10.16 for the macintosh to alpha test. You can download it here. Please let me know if this fixes your problem. Cheers, --Charlie Charlie Fenton BOINC / SETI@home Macintosh & Windows Programmer |

I've changed the installer to use the default sh shell (which is actually bash) beginning with the next release. Thanks Charlie! It seems the installation has successfully done. I'm now running climatepredction.net and so far it works without any problem. I'm not sure if there will be some problems in the long run, but I'll let you know it if there is. Again, thanks a lot! |

I've changed the installer to use the default sh shell (which is actually bash) beginning with the next release. Recently, I experienced a technical problem. Just trying to see the graphic, I clicked the image on the simple view. Then, the graphic popped up once and disappears in a second without any warning. After that, something went wrong and all the project data has been gone: the computer showed some kind of error and started to download new one. Everytime I try to see the graphic, exactly the same thing happens. I don't think it happened before, like 2 weeks before or so. Anyone has any idea what causes this? Thanks. Galaksiafervojo |
