I've added ticket #620 for this. Richard, I do fully understand you and agree with the ugliness of my proposal (from the plain user's point of view). If you follow my later commments in the ticket, you'll see that I never stopped to advocate a human-readable settings "connect interval" and "cache size" in the user interface (IMO global_prefs_overide belongs ather to machine interface :-) What I merely wanted to point out was to show that the functionality in the client is already there, nothing gets broken and (after allowing the negative value in the client) all sorts of GUI (forum web page settings, AMs, Boinc Manager apps) can introduce the plain user usable settings and switches, including "flush all work" or "going to holidays" checkboxes etc... - not a technical issue anymore, but a political decision, whether and when to rename the parameters. I've added ticket #620 for this. Fair enough - thanks for the extended explanation, and I have no quarrel at all with your proposed underlying functionality. It all goes to re-affirm that core coding, and user interface design, are two seperate disciplines and needn't (perhaps shouldn't) be entrusted to the same person. But it is important that both parties understand their common goal, and have good communication between them. |

I would like to be able to calculate on my linux when there isn't an internet connection, sometimes I work without the connection and its a shame that I cant continue calculating. |

Just a suggestion, why not have the BOINC manager display the project news (which it can get via RSS feed). It may need another tab or menu option to get to it. It would be useful for those projects (like seti or lhc) where the project is broken but will be resolved in time. Users could be informed without having to go to the project web site. |

Just a suggestion, why not have the BOINC manager display the project news (which it can get via RSS feed). It's a good idea; and has been suggested before. I just wouldn't like it to be added badly and in a rush - which is how many BOINC features have been added :( |

I'd like a setting to not start any work until X minutes after BOINC Manager starts. Windoze takes long enough on startup, I don't need every startup and systray application slowing it down. When I do so, I get the error : "Missing start tag in cc_config.xml" within the messages. What did I do wrong? |

Which version of BOINC do you use? I ask as this option is only available in BOINC 6.1.7 and above. |

Which version of BOINC do you use? I ask as this option is only available in BOINC 6.1.7 and above. Yes, but in earlier versions (mine is 5.10.45) the error message is "Unrecognized tag in cc_config.xml: <start_delay>" not "Missing start tag in cc_config.xml", which indicates a "syntax error", such as a missing "<" or "/". Or perhaps, as Nicolas suspected, the wrong editor was used. Gruß, Gundolf /edit: in 5.8.16 the message is "Unparsed tag in cc_config.xml: <start_delay>..." Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. Just a suggestion, why not have the BOINC manager display the project news (which it can get via RSS feed). Most seem to have news shown on their home page (well the 3 that I am crunching for anyway, can't comment on the others - ie Seti, Einstein and Orbit). Perhaps a link or button on the project tab, once a project has been selected, to jump to the projects server status page could be accomplished. MarkJ |

Hi all: I don't know if this has been requested before, but here goes: I have many projects attatched to each of my computers and would like the ability to update all projects with a single update request. Mark Reiss |

I have many projects attatched to each of my computers and would like the ability to update all projects with a single update request. I think that the Boinc Manager 6.1.x already supports issuing a command on a multiple selected items at once. (The experienced ones may confirm or deny it.) However Boinc Manager is designed to control just one client and it will probably stay so for a long time. Thus to issue a multi-project and multi-computer update command, you would need to use any of multihost 3rd party managers, e.g. BoincView or Boinc Studio. Peter |

Hi, If the property of BoincManager link in startup directory is set to normal window instead of minimized, size is kept. My wish list is : Is it possible to have one more option - On multiprocessors, use only n CPUS when computer is in use - regards |

Thierry said If the property of BoincManager link in startup directory is set to normal window instead of minimized, size is kept. I've just confirmed that on my computers that property was already set to normal window. But after a reboot the BOINC manager window still opens first time as super-mini. |

Sorry about that, it works on my computers W2K and Vista - Boinc 5.10.45. When set to normal window link to boincmgr.exe" /s, start as icon in taskbar but after opening, size is fine (not position - a little bit right) ; When set to minimized as it is defined at install, start is the same, but after opening, size and position seem to be randomly defined and really small. |

Number 1: a better system to manage feature suggestions than a few huge threads, in threads you can't give a priority to good features, you can't post comments specific to one suggestion (like one person could just say 'this change would probably be in the file /path/to/file, if anyone wants to take a look at it') 2: An option to say 'If a work unit is within x minutes (or above 99%) of finishing, continue on it' then give it like x*1.5 minutes before it moves to the next unit (so if it were looping or anything?) --i have 4 projects, and one unit for one of them that has been in the list for at least 2 hours which claims it has 23seconds left to finish off the 0.762% left on it 3: On the tasks tab, a custom sort for the Status column, so that 'Running' would always be on top, then 'Waiting to run' |

Make a new ticket. 2: An option to say 'If a work unit is within x minutes (or above 99%) of finishing, continue on it' then give it like x*1.5 minutes before it moves to the next unit (so if it were looping or anything?) Usually, BOINC runs to the next checkpoint, if the application checkpoints. The problem is... BOINC cannot know how long the last 1% will take. On some projects it takes minutes, on others it takes days. Example given, the latest Orbit tasks take over 12 hours to do the last 0.050% on most systems. 3: On the tasks tab, a custom sort for the Status column, so that 'Running' would always be on top, then 'Waiting to run' Gridview, in BOINC 5.10 and upwards, allows column sorting. In BOINC 6.4 messages sorting is coming back. |
