In future versions of the BOINC Manager, I'll like to see a direct hyperlink from the work unit (name) to its status on the respective project page. Problem is the client doesn't know the numerical workunit ID, which is needed for that link. I support this request. Having the server-side workunit and result IDs available via GUI RPCs would help a lot for addons (and for the official manager to add the link you're requesting). However, it would need changes to the server, client, and manager; essentially the whole system :) |

Hi Ageless, Is this where I could make a wish list request for a Synchronize CPID Feature in the Tools Tab in the BOINCManager for the problem of Multiple CPIDs (Which sewsaws project CPIDs) in my hosts for about the past year and a half? Something like at BOINCStats for synchronizing retired projects. If not, Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks Bill |

Hi Bill, Best register to Trac and make it a new ticket, as an Enhancement. That's the more direct way into the developer's backyard. Albeit that to have the CPIDs be the same all over the place, it apparently needs the email address, used nickname, used URL and country to be the same. I still have 4 CPIDs simply because I use a different URL at a couple of projects, while my nickname wasn't the same everywhere either. So a button in BOINC Manager won't make much of a difference, if you ask me. But it never hurts to ask. :-) |

Hi Bill, Ageless, Thanks a lot. My username, password, email address, URL, country, zip code. team and team founder were the same throughout all projects and all of the previous 14 are connected to all the projects too. I've been having this problem for a long time and tried everything to stop my hosts from changing the CPIDs at the project every a different one connects to it. I just attached a new host to all the projects one at a time and used the host with my main CPID to change to it before attaching. Well that did work either because I stll ended up with 4 CPIDs in the new node. I think one of the others connected between attaching. It doesn't seem like anything is controlling the CPIDs except the hosts in my situation. That's whay I think if I could change my hosts CPID Hash by synchronizing to the one of my main CPID it would get all my hosts in line. I'm off to try there. Thanks Again, Bill Edited: I'm already registed there. So I should make a new ticket then? |

Do know that the best way to keep the same CPID all over your PCs is to use one PC in your farm to attach to all possible projects out there. It doesn't need to fetch work from the projects, attaching is enough. (and then abort the work you inevitably get). Or so I am told. ;-) But yeah, make it a ticket. Clear, concise and constructed. |

The 15th I have been attaching for 3 days and still don't have them all in yet. The real reason I think that don't work is that it doesn't matter because the Hosts have multiple CPIDs in it and they are controlling the CPIDs at the Projects. I started out with 4 hosts in Feb 2005 and added 17 hosts (2 of which crashed) that's why I'm at 15 and attached to about 90 projects give or take a few. As I attached to project and added hosts, I made sure they are and were on all hosts. I tried everything I can think of to correct the problem with no luck. I just filled out a ticket and waiting. Thanks Bill Edited: I thought I filled out a ticket but I can find it now. It said a time for received. and assigned to ronm and now I can't find it. |

Edited: Ticket [trac]#579[/trac]. I'll set you as a CC, so you get emails whenever someone posts to the ticket. |

So did I, Nick, but apparently not on BOINCStats... I've had Pirates as a separate CPID for a long time, solely because I was named Stainless Cutlass there. When you now look up my nickname, you'll find 4 different CPIDs. I still don't know how to get all projects to stay on one. |

hi there, first my apologies, but I did not read the whole thread, so if my wishes have already been posted feel free to delete this post. 1) vacation manager: I'd like to tell BOINC that my computer will be off during a certain time span. e.g. ~7 days from 2008-01-01 12:00 till 2008-01-08 06:00. the BOINC manager should then try to: - finish work due till the end of that time span (+ to completion time) - report all results finished before the start of that time span - and download only new work which deadline lies past the end of that time span (considering the time to completion), or can be finished easily prior the start of that time span. current workaround would be to pause projects with short deadlines, which confuses the resource share. also there are projects with varying deadlines. so I do think this would be a really useful feature. 2) the BOINC manager should remember its size and screen position after reboot. it lost that feature a time ago, but I do not remember the first version this did not work anymore. thank you very much and keep up the good work! best regards, pe. |

The functionality is already (nearly) there, using the <work_buf_min_days> tag with parameter 7.0 in the global_prefs_override.xml file. Just that from my experience (I do use it extensively for longer off-line situations), not all project do obey this and do send work with shorter deadlines. As an extension, I'd like to see a support for negative <work_buf_additional_days>, meaning "cache by that many days less work", because "during the specified w_b_min_days off-line period, the computers will be possibly off for (-additional_days) long". One wish - I haven't seen it posted, but related functionality has been requested - is to allow a particular project to run even when I am using the computer. I had a project that had 2 minutes more to go, but missed the deadline, because it didn't run until after I had finished work. I wouldn't want all projects to run, just this one, to complete, so it would finish by the deadline. The resources required would probably not have caused me any real problems. Cheers. |

I'd like a setting to not start any work until X minutes after BOINC Manager starts. Windoze takes long enough on startup, I don't need every startup and systray application slowing it down. |

I'd like a setting to not start any work until X minutes after BOINC Manager starts. Windoze takes long enough on startup, I don't need every startup and systray application slowing it down. The setting already exists in the BOINC 6.x code. You could set it right now, so that whenever 6.x is released officially, the setting starts taking effect immediately. Create a file called cc_config.xml in your BOINC directory, with these contents: <cc_config> <options> <start_delay>120</start_delay> </options> </cc_config> The delay is in seconds; in this example, it's set to two minutes. |

One thing that may already have been mentioned: I'm using this for Seti@home, and the pieces of work have report (or "due") dates set on them. I want to set it so that my computer automatically does the work that has the earliest report date. |

Sorry, Peter, I really don't like this idea at all. I've added the following comment to your ticket. I think this is going to be really unfriendly and confusing for ordinary users - "I'm going to be away for a week, but I can fit in a couple of days work before then. So what figure do I type in this box? Minus five? Huh?" How many other programs do you use that work like that? |
