My wish list ( as short as it may be ) is to have a centralized location of all Boinc projects on one page with clickable hyperlinks and maybe a brief description of each beside, so as to have the ability to pick and choose which one you want to run, also have ( maybe on same page) the Boinc projects that have the intent of joining up with Boinc. Something like this: Unofficial Wiki Rebirthers List or in german: BOINC FAQ SETI.Gemany Wiki rechenkraft.net Wiki Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

Or just the Projects list of the BOINC FAQs. |

If I could have one wish, I would would load BOINC projects onto my Blackberry and run it while I have it plugged in. It's my wish nonetheless. Maybe I should also wish that all hand held devices has expandable memory. |

Thank you Ageless and Saenger, like that, but have it so that its automatically (human inputed) that its always up to date, that way users know what other projects are out there, other then the 21 on the project manager list when you add a project to Boinc. |

The list in BOINC Manager's Attach to wizard is updated with each BOINC release. It can't (yet) be updated automatically on a scheduler contact, as that would mean that either BOINC needs to call home (BOINC server) or that all projects out there need an up-to-date list of all other projects at all times. Any project not updating the list would call for discrepancies. And then there's the fact that not all projects want to be on the list. Some are in their pre_alpha stages, alpha stage, beta stage. BOINC's own list has mostly production and beta stage projects. I'm only updating the Projects list in the FAQs when I find something on a project. Not all projects are in the list there, two I omitted because they are a bit dubious, not following BOINC's way of dealing with Distributed Computing. And with 75+ projects out there... do you really want them all in a list in BOINC Manager? ;-) |

Ok thank you Ageless, I guess it would cause lots of extra bandwidth if all the managers would call home all the time. I also didn't think about the ones that didn't want to be on the list. Anyways keep up the great work. :-D |

Yes well. You'll know which ones I mean when I say it's all about the money. We're in no way affiliated with BOINC, but there's just some lines I draw when it comes to certain projects. And if you want to know about them, they'll be in someone else's less scrupulous list. :-) |

I'd like to see Time To Next Checkpoint on the tasks tab. That way I'd know the best time to interrupt it to do backups, etc, so I lose the least amount of work. --Mike Master of IBM Big Iron |

It's not BOINC that checkpoints, but the application. It's built in into the tasks that the application is running when to checkpoint, so how should BOINC know about that? |

I'd like to see Time To Next Checkpoint on the tasks tab. That way I'd know the best time to interrupt it to do backups, etc, so I lose the least amount of work. As Ageless wrote, this is not possible (until the apps will tell in advance). But future Boinc versions will possibly be able to shut down the apps just after checkpointing. Peter |

The BOINC CC does know when a checkpoint is just under construction, so it can treat the application more careful and be more patient with it. An application that is checkpointing will not be paused just while the checkpoint is beeing worked on for example. Afaik. it does not know the time of the next checkpoint. |

But future Boinc versions will possibly be able to shut down the apps just after checkpointing. Or as it says in DevProjects: - GUI RPC to tell apps to checkpoint and quit. - After an applications exits or is killed (for whatever reason) make sure (after a few second delay) that its subprocesses are gone too. Don't restart the job until this happens. Unix: use process groups and killpg(). --- More generally: make a better state machine for shutting down apps: tell them to checkpoint, wait a little, tell them to quit, clean up straggler processes. - Vista: if get 'about to shut down' msg from OS, stop apps immediately (don't tell them to checkpoint). Investigate. |

Perhaps I overlooked it, but when a workunit has returned an error or the workunit has a no-reply result from another cruncher. To validate the result the project will send out another wu. When my machine recieves one of these wu's it has a much shorter deadline and I was curious if there was a way to set a priority in boinc so that these "high priority" wu's are crunched first and take precedence over the wu's that have a standard deadline? Thanks. |

Thanks. BOINC already does that. In fact that's the only reason why the server gives a tighter deadline for resends. |

I think BOINC needs to improve the Task Manager: - Allow the user to assign percentage of resources to projects individually. - Allow the user to modify the queue, of course BOINC should control that it never gets to zero work units on any projects. I'd personally would like to download a few dozens of work units to have them in queue and to asssign 80% to WCG and the rest to other projects or chage this in a few days. PLEASE MAKE THIS POSSIBLE. |

Assigning percentage of resources has been possible for years. But I can't find how to change it on WCG website... |

This topic has arisen before, so why make resource allocation so difficult to find? Don't want anyone changing the defaults?Assigning percentage of resources has been possible for years. But I can't find how to change it on WCG website... |
