I've heard that Folding@Home is now running on the Playstation 3 with fantastic results. Any chance of doing a BOINC client for game consoles? John MacPro 2 x 2.66GHz Dual-Core Xeon | 2GB RAM | ATI x1900 | BOINC 5.8.17 |

David Anderson is having talks with Microsoft about having BOINC on the XBOX series. That's all we know. Didn't I read somewhere that Sony is asking people to pay for being able to run the FAH option? |

David Anderson is having talks with Microsoft about having BOINC on the XBOX series. That's all we know. I thought it was that he had talks with Sony about getting it on the PS3, and that Microsoft wasn't willing to do the same on Xbox. Hmm... Didn't I read somewhere that Sony is asking people to pay for being able to run the FAH option? IIRC it was more along the lines of "If some company wants a lot of CPU time, like what FAH is getting, pay Sony and they will get users' PS3 to crunch". But would users want their PS3s (and electricity) to be used for free (without users getting something back), if Sony is getting money (paid by the company) and the company is probably is getting money too? (it's probably "profitable computing" if they can afford paying Sony) Sorry for so many things in parentheses :P |

There is a new project PS3GRID (www.ps3grid.net) which is a pure PS3 project with a specialy for the PS3 optimized application. Also SETI@Home and SIMAP supports PS3, too. For the SETI application look at this thread : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=39910. The SIMAP applications are available at the download site : http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/appdownloads.php |
