[ (ten ^ four ) * pi ] rounded is 31416, one of our port numbers.

ten, four, [pi rounded] is 1043, the other port number we use.

Was this intentional?

Haha, I don't think it was :) The IANA assigned BOINC port 1043. Years later, apparently some Windows services were opening the port, causing problems with BOINC Manager. David Anderson requested IANA another port, but he didn't get a reply, so they took 31416. I noticed the port is already taken by "XQoS network monitor" (based on IANA assigned port list), but I doubt any BOINCer has that weird thing on his computer (what the hell IS it anyway?).
