Boinc v8.2.13
Kubuntu 26.04
Science United

On my desktop PC, when boinc is running, it is causing the machine to lock up periodically. When I disable boinc, the lockups don't happen.

I've played around with the setting to reduce the load when I'm using the PC. This didn't work, so I selected "Suspend when the computer is in use" but this is not working, boinc does not stop when I'm using the mouse and keyboard.

I'm happy to provide information required to help solve this issue. Just let me know what you need.

One thing to test- is BOINC using all CPUs? Try reducing the # by one or two so the OS has something available for use.

The "not pausing while in use" is a separate thing, and should also looked into as to why it isn't happening...

In your favorite terminal window try a "top -n 1" and look at the numbers. i.e. number of CPU's being used, memory, and swap. In particular watch the swap, that's what usually gets me.

In reply to tony-r's message of 19 Jul 2026:
but this is not working, boinc does not stop when I'm using the mouse and keyboard.

It's a known issue, and it's already fixed but requires an additional package to be installed.
Once installed, restart BOINC client (client not manager), and it should monitor user's activity properly.
