I'm using BOINC 5.8.11 on Win XP I stuck it on snooze to free up the CPU whilst doing some other tasks (I have it set to run all the time) and my PC became sluggish about an hour later. I discovered using the messages that BOINC had un-snoozed itself after an hour

Yes, that's by design. Snooze only suspends network and computing activity for one hour. If you want it to take longer, suspend all through BOINC Manager. That's Activity, Suspend. The BOINC icon will then also show a pause sign. |

Suspending network activity is useless, BOINC communicates anyway in many cases. |

Suspending network activity is useless, BOINC communicates anyway in many cases. Should not anymore (since 5.8.x). Or do you mean something different than the 5 minutes delay? Peter |

Suspend communication, click Update on some project, it will contact servers anyway. Confirmed 5 seconds ago on 5.8.15. Yes, sure, this is the 5 minute communication window, opened by manually triggering some network activity - like your [Click update on a project]. But after suspending the communication, even during this 5 minute window, it will really be suspended. (Confirmed 5 seconds ago on 5.8.15 ;-) (Unless re-enabled by manual update.) Activity menu still shows 'Network activity suspended' checked. Agree. This is another drawback which makes me a bit angry (too). The lack of correctly or completely showing the complete internal state. When Boinc is snoozed, BoincView is able to display "Snoozing for ..... seconds" for it (in the Hosts tab, State column). In some 5.7.x or 5.8.x, BCC was snoozing only for 1 minute, and BoincView was displaying this countdown in both State and Network columns (possibly they were snoozed both?). But BoincManager shows no sign of being snoozed in the GUI (only indirect - all tasks have status "Suspended - computation suspended", but this is not "Snoozed - computation suspended"). Except the Boinc icon in the taskbar is overlaid with pause sign, but opening it's menu still display "Snooze" instead of maybe "Wake up!". Peter |
