It started it right back up this AM but just now it did not. I have not done anything but changed the directories and done the listings as suggested.

I am not sure what it is showing.

I quit the BOINC Monitor and then re - launched. I got the errror -1202, re-installed and it seems happy.

I was running BOINC Manager 5.4.9 on my MacBook Pro and OS 10.4.6 without any problems. I decided to upgrade to 5.8.11 yesterday. It installed without problems but BOINC Manager couldn't find the Client. I tried selecting localhost, shutting down the "connected client" and selecting localhost again, restarting the computer, and reinstalling BOINC 5.8.11. None of those things helped. I'm not sure what I should do next and would appreciate any help you can give me.

Something apparently happened between 5:37 and 6:33. Files downloaded at 5:37 have the correct user boinc_master and files at 6:33 have the wrong user bob.

Did you move or copy the BOINC Manager during that time, or do anything else that might have affected it?

Are you running the BOINC Manager from a dirrectory other than the usual /Applications?

The next time this happens, could you do the following in Terminal:
type ls -alR followed by a space, then drag the BOINC manager from the Finder window onto the terminal. Then type a carriage return in terminal and post the output.

I do see the user change.

About 5:50, I shut down my laptop and went to school. At 6:33 I restarted my computer.

I have never copied or moved Boinc Manager, it runs from /Applications.

Now, I am running 5.8.15. I installed it right after doing the permissions inventory as above. So far I am not having any difficulty. If I run into this error again, I will get back to you.

That does seem to be what's happening, though at this point we don't know if it is BOINC itself or some other process.

That is very strange. This happens on an Intel Mac when the client_state.xml file says the platform is a Power PC. This should only happen in two circumstances:
(1) You have upgrades from a version of BOINC older than version 5.3.21, or
(2) You copied BOINC data files from a PowerPC Mac to an Intel Mac.

I wonder if this might be related to the permissions / file ownership problems you are experiencing.

One possibility that comes to mind is that the SETI@home servers have erroneously recorded this computer as more than one machine or "host", and one of more of these hosts are listed as PowerPC.

Try this:
- In the BOINC Manager, select the Projects tab and select SETI@home. Then click the "Your account" button.
- In the web page which opens, click on "view" computers. Check the CPU type listed for each.
- If you have multiple entries for the one computer, click on each computer's ID, then select "merge this computer" at the bottom of the page to see if you can consolidate the multiple entries (though this may not be possible if they are listed with different CPU types.)

- If you are running other projects, repeat this for each one.

hello,
I had a problem like the one discussed here and online Volunteer Kathryn Marks was very helpful in helping me nail down my problem. Even tho i had updated my Boinc Manager, I was still running the old version of the Boinc Menubar for Mac. Once I uninstalled that the new versions of Boinc Manager ran fine.



Sorry if this has already been discussed, i just scanned thru the topic and didn't notice it.
