I recently upgraded one of my Windows 11 machines to Boinc client 8.2.4. I also installed Docker Desktop on the basis that it might in future be useful for projects using BUDA. At the moment, I’m running WCG only, which as I understand it doesn’t use BUDA. Looking at my recent results on WCG (both ARP1 and MCM1), I notice that my Windows 11 machine now shows as having Linux as it’s OS type and Docker Desktop as its OS version. And its wingmen now show as Linux machines. I don’t really understand this. Does anyone have any insights as to what is going on here? Cheers, Mark |

In reply to Dave's message of 28 Jul 2025: Right now I plan only to install BOINC 8.2.4 without Docker/PODMAN. What problem will this lead to?None. The only work that uses Docker/PODMAN is experimental to iron out problems with it. The long term plan for it is to have Docker installed by default by BOINC enabling projects that are picky about the software environment to run everything in a VM which will have exactly the right version of Linux but stripped down without superfluous bits to it. There are no REAL projects using it and probably won't be for a few years at least. Thx a lot. Ken |

I installed BOINC 8.2.4, and the icon it put in the taskbar is a blank whiteboard... NOT the cool BOINC logo. Need advice on how to correct. Thanx! |

In reply to Scott's message of 30 Jul 2025: I installed BOINC 8.2.4, and the icon it put in the taskbar is a blank whiteboard... NOT the cool BOINC logo. Need advice on how to correct. Thanx!I updated following the BOINC prompt on my Windows BOINC in a VM. It changed the icon to a blank whiteboard but when I clicked on it it told me the shortcut was not valid any more and did I want to delete it. Dragging the icon from the start menu or whatever it is called now restored the original. |

Not new to 8.2.4 but this message needs to be updated to point to somewhere on git-hub Warning:GUI RPC password is empty. BOINC can be used by any user on this computer. See https://boinc.berkely.edu/gui_rpc_password.php for more information. |

I have 2 issues after installing Boinc 8.2.4 + Docker. On WCG & Einstein, my Win11 PC is being reported as using Alpine Linux v3.21, Asteroids & Milkyway correctly says Win11. Since installing v8.2,4 some 2 weeks ago, the remaining estimated time hasn't changed for WCG and Asteroids, and at least WCG is wrong, guess Asteroids also. |

I see no point to retarget this anywhere to GitHub. BOINC maintainer. For any insight, check my BOINC Development Blog. |

When I type that address into a browser I get, Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site. Also making it a link rather than making the user type it out in full leading to possible mistakes would be more user friendly. Edit: tried copying and pasting and that worked. sorry. |
